Despite the low number of reported cases of VAWC, abuses against women and children continue to prevail

The Philippine Commission on Women reported a 50% decrease in the reported cases of VAWC, from an average of 74 reported cases per day in 2019 to 56 reported cases per day in 2020, during the pandemic lockdown. However, this doesn’t necessarily reflect reality.

This Mother’s Day, the Center for Women’s Resources (CWR), a 37-year research and training institution for women, urges the public to genuinely pay tribute to mothers not only by recognizing their sacrifices as homemaker, but also by calling for an end to societal ills that burden all mothers, especially those who belong to the marginalized sectors.
